Character Error
Grenoble is mentioned by McClane as being a Swiss city. It is actually in France, more than 100km on the other side of the Swiss/French border.

Character Error
Chernobyl did not "meltdown" as mentioned by both John and Jack multiple times. The pressure vessel ruptured due to a loss of cooling.

Continuity
When John and Jack are stealing a car outside a nightclub, they are trying to pick the lock of a Maserati Quattroporte. Even the car key John produces, and the subsequent shot of a trunk full of guns is that of a Quattroporte. However in the following shots, they are driving a Maybach 57.

Continuity
During the car chase John is called twice by his daughter and the same clip of him saying, "I'll have to call you back," is used both times. It's obviously out of place the second time because he shouldn't be going downhill.

Continuity
During the car chase following the bombing of the courthouse, the streets switch back and forth from being dry to being wet, and back again.

Continuity
During the chase two cars (blue & silver) are involved in a t-bone accident, but when the armored truck punches through they are head to head.

Continuity
After the breakout from the courthouse Jack and Komarov are handcuffed when they are in the blue van. When John stops the van and they get out, the handcuffs are gone.

Continuity
(at around 20 mins) When McClane is chasing after Jack, at the moment when McClane rams the truck chasing Jack and says, "Jack! I'm not done talking to you!" there is a brief shot of Jack driving the blue van with the driver's side on the right side of the van. In all other scenes, the driver's side of the van is on the left.

Continuity
While John and Jack held up at the Ball room by Alik with their hands tied, Jack cuts his way using the knife he had hidden in his socks. We see John jumping at Alik with his hands tied and in the next scene, his hands are untied and has got hold of a gun.

Continuity
During the first escape scene, the same gray Mazda 6 is visible multiple times (at complete different locations: parked, at the highway, in the city, stopping when car falls down from overpass).

Continuity
In the chase scene, the blue van with Jack and Komarov. The left headlight is loose (broke). But in the next shot, it looks like he's made. The shot after, the headlight hangs again.

Continuity
After escaping the first ambush, the bullet wound in Komarov's arm briefly disappears.

Continuity
In the end when John and Jack jumps from the second floor while the helicopter crashes into the building they drop through a glass roof then into a pool of water. The camera follow them into the water. The next clip is at "pool"-level viewing the surface and the exploding helicopter outside. The surface of the pool is undisturbed.

Crew/Equipment Visible
When the small blue car (Renault Clio) is hit during the chase in the beginning of the movie, the quad or motorcycle which is carrying the cameraman is visible for a short moment.
Trivia:
This is the first Die Hard film to use Dolby Atmos Surround Mixing and the first to also be released in IMAX theaters.

At 97 minutes, this is the shortest movie in the action series since "Die Hard 2 (1990): Die Harder".

The largest helicopter in the film is a Mil Mi-26 (NATO reporting name: Halo). It is also the largest and the most powerful helicopter ever produced.

Filming of the Mi-24 Hind helicopter firing scenes took place at a military shooting range where Major Peter Simon, Air Operations Commander of Szolnok Helicopter Base, Hungarian Air Force (the pilot of the helicopter in all scenes) operated the gunship's Gryazev-Shipunov GS-30-2k (30 mm) auto-cannons and S-8 (80 mm) rockets with live ammunition to make sure the shooting effects will be as realistic as possible. Background and targets were applied in post-production.

Many actors including Aaron Paul, Liam Hemsworth, James Badge Dale, Paul Walker, Ben Foster, Shiloh Fernandez, Milo Ventimiglia, Paul Dano, Steven R. McQueen, and D.J. Cotrona were considered to play John McClane's son. The role ultimately was earned by Jai Courtney.

Noam Murro was original choice to direct this movie, but his commitment to the film "300: Rise of an Empire" (2014) prevented him from working on this film. Other directors considered including Joe Cornish, Justin Lin and Nicolas Winding Refn.

Interestingly, the Russian gang in the movie had no actual Russian members. The roles were played by Slovakian, Hungarian, Serbian, Mongolian and Ukrainian actors.

Bruce Willis has openly stated he would like to bring back Bonnie Bedelia to the series. She originally played the character of Holly Gennaro McClane, the wife of Bruce Willis' character John McClane in Die Hard (1988) and Die Hard 2 (1990) series, but then stopped playing that character.

In the final action scene, the helicopter pilot says that the controls are at "full forward cyclic." This means that the cyclic stick (the joystick-like control) is pushed all the way forward in an attempt to bring the nose down.

Bruce Willis is the only cast or crew member involved in all five instalments of the Die Hard series, that began all the way back in 1988.

The Mil Mi-26 transport helicopter seen at the end of the movie was rented from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus. The original color of the helicopter is white. The temporary camouflage paint scheme was applied in Hungary, where the helicopter scenes were shot.

The black Mercedes SUV featured in a chase scene is a Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The line was developed after the Shah of Iran suggested it to the Daimler-Benz management as a possible military vehicle. Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was a major Daimler shareholder at the time.

The city of Pripyat was founded in 1970 for workers at the nearby Chernobyl nuclear power plant, that is infamous for its nuclear leak.

The Cougar HEV armored truck in the movie, was portrayed by four replica vehicles: three custom vehicles made by the specialists of Team Szalay, built on chassis of military surplus 6-wheeled ZIL 131 trucks, and powered by Ural truck engines. The fourth replica used for jump stunts was made in the US and was powered by a V10 Dodge Viper engine.

Uranium-235 is a rare isotope of Uranium-238, with atoms that contain the same number of protons but fewer neutrons, making it radioactive an extremely unstable. "Weapons grade Uranium" is refined Uranium-235 containing less than 15% Uranium-238.

The bulk of the shooting of this movie took place in Budapest, Hungary.
