Set in Arizona 1882, Albert (Seth MacFarlane), a sheep farmer who lacks courage, loses his beloved girlfriend (Amanda Seyfried) as a result of his withdrawal from a duel. When a mysterious and beautiful woman (Theron) rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. The twist in the tale comes when her husband (Liam Neeson), a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge. Will the farmer truly be willing to endanger his life for the sake of the woman? Does he have the mettle to defeat the outlaw, and succeed in the ensuing gunfight?
