Abhimanyudu (1984)

This evocative family-oriented drama delves into the trials and triumphs in the life of Abhimanyu, the son of Shivayya, a priest who speaks of truth and honesty always.

During one of Shivayya's spiritual discourses, a murder takes place. A wealthy and powerful man murders his wife, who was having an extramarital affair. Shivayya is asked to lie in the witness stand during the court case. When he refuses and states the complete truth while under oath, the powerful murderer manipulates evidence, blames Shivayya for being an accomplice in the murder and has him convicted of a crime he did not commit. Unable to bear this injustice, Shivayya passes away of a broken heart. Abhimanyu and his mother are left to fend for themselves.

Deeply affected by the injustice endured by his father, and under pressure to care for his mother Abhimanyu becomes completely unethical and willing to lie, bend the rules or do anything for profit. in fact, he makes it his profession to lie on the witness stand for personal gain. Pretending to be a Supreme Court lawyer, he gets close to wealthy people.

Abhimanyu falls in love with Swapna, a law graduate, but she marries another man. When Swapna's husband is accused of murder, Abhimanyu decides to help him prove his innocence. Will Abhimanyu continue his immoral and unethical ways? Will the circumstances in life teach him the value of truth and ethical behaviour?
