This evocative drama depicts the trials and triumphs in the life of Debnath, who hails from a very spiritual family. He is taught to lead a life of honesty and integrity, with a peaceful and worshipful attitude towards life.
Some wealthy businessmen from the city misbehave with a rural woman, and when they are attacked and tied up by the locals, Debnath comes to their rescue. Being innocent, he does not realise their greedy and deceitful nature and when they invite him to the city, he accepts and takes his younger sister along with him.
He begins working for them, but soon realises that they are involved in many illegal activities. When he raises his voice against their misdeeds, they beat him up, rape and leave his younger sister for dead, and burn everything that belonged to his family.
To add to his woes, he is arrested by the police and because he has no proof of his innocence, finds himself convicted by the court system. Unable to bear the injustice, he escapes and becomes a fugitive of the law.
Many years later, he returns with a new identity as a wealthy man. Pretending to be Debnath's friend, he tries to become friendly with his own wife and daughter, Rakhee, who is of marriageable age now. When Rakhee's marriage is stalled due to her father's criminal reputation, how will Debnath react? Will he reveal his true identity and ensure his daughter's marriage, thereby risking arrest or remain quiet in order to stay a free man?
