Set against a rural backdrop, this socially relevant environmental drama delves into the trials and triumphs in the life of Balan, a well-educated young man. When he finds out that the job he has been granted in the local college as lecturer carries with it a huge pricetag, decides against it. However, his mother decides to sell their elephant in order to pay the required donation of Rs. 50,000 so that he may avail of the job.
Balan is shattered. The elephant, Vinayan is not just a pet or an investment for him, but beloved childhood friend and playmate. Balan brings back Vinayan by force and leaves home with him, much to his mother's distress.
Travelling deep into the forest with Vinayan, Balan soon becomes embroiled in a dangerous effort to protect the forests and wildlife from greedy businessmen. Along with an honest police officer and a government administrator, Balan promises to ensure that all smuggling and other illegal activities in the forest are stopped once and for all. Along with the tribespeople, will Balan and his friends succeed in their dangerous mission?
