The mind that created moving visual thinking was cognizant of its mortality. It wanted to create a dialogue with existence, recognizing death and transformation. Consider this the mystic cinema: motion. Change. Illusion. Belief. These are the true subjects of film. Appearance. Disappearance. Transience. The haunting of the image & its fragile trace. A radically counter, parallel path of cinema: not memory, record or preservation, nor story, history, or narrative, but the living object, aging skin, and decaying body of the material." Bradley Eros: Ephemeral Cinema
"The film is an exploratory personal document on the nature of film and cinema as an alchemical substance and a form that celebrates it's own transitory existence, is a flicker of the breathing moment that admits its changes, its scars & discolorations, its degeneration and eventually its death; experiences light as a palpable medium. The endeavor is to engage with film in a performative act to create accident and magic through the sleight of hand & trick of the eye examined and scrutinized for the beauty of its possibility, its knowledge explicated, and its reflective vitality celebrated. Its inner workings, proof of the science of sublime insight.
It hopes to be a narrative of the medium and the celebration of the degeneration itself, beginning with an ode to light, leading into the documentation of the various mechanical devices which make image making possible, moving towards the handcrafting and alchemical experiments performed on film (of various formats) by the crew and finally culminating into projections of these handcrafted films to create installations of light play around the city which are recorded on the digital format.
