This contemporary musical traces the twists and turns in the lives of a band of Banjo players, led by Taraat (Riteish Deshmukh) who hails from Mumbai and belongs to an impoverished family.
A budding American singer Chris (Nargis Fakhri) travels to Mumbai all the way from New York to hunt for Taraat and his quirky coterie, hoping to take their music international. But back in India, Taraat and his gang has many issues to battle, including rivalry with a fellow Banjo player.
Taraat likes Chris but is ashamed of his financial condition. Also since banjo players are mostly street musicians and are not respected enough, he refuses to acknowledge his talent in front of her.
She still figures out his talent and they soon form a band. She gets them a major break at a posh club but his rival frames him for attacking a politician and gets Taraat arrested. The police even tell Chris that he is a recovery agent and works for criminals, but they are unable to shake Chris' faith in him.
Then, in a fateful twist, Taraat loses the old man he considers as his father. This saddens him and he refuses to associate himself with Chris, given their social backgrounds. She leaves India in deep disappointment.
Taraat finally realises his mistake and decides to participate in the contest that Chris wanted him to. He wins people over and leaves for US with his gang to meet his lady-love.
