There are sequels that work, and some that fail miserably as we have seen in the past. But sequels that work are the actual ones that really prove the success of the original one
Such is the case with Chennai 28 Second Innings that released today. The first part, which was released in 2007,released with no expectations and turned out to be a cult classic, making its expectations for the second part to be a touch higher than the first.
Chennai 28 II, well, what to say, it has been an enjoyable ride right from the first Bgm title track to the last scene. Yuvan's Bgms that were used in the original part were looking way better in the second one. Venkat Prabhu has given a right mix of cricket, love, comedy and emotional moments to satisfy audiences, whom in this generation where even a notch lower than the original would not have them thinking positively.
All the actors were given enough scope to perform in the film, which is a huge positive, particularly the role of Vaibhav and Mahat. Yuvan never disappoints with his music and Bgms. Direction was crisp, so was the picturisation and editing
Only negative, is that maybe the House Party song could have been avoided, but still it didn't deter the movie's nature.
Cameos in the form of commentary by Reviewer Prashanth and Badava Gopi added the cherry to the ice cream, which is so delicious that people want more of it. And if Part 3 comes, which Premgi says at the end, well, can't wait for it already.
Overall, a successful reunion for Chennai 28 team, and well and truly THE BOYS ARE BACK.
