This emotionally charged drama touchingly traces the trials and triumphs in the life of Ramu, a college student, whose uneducated father works as a servant for a wealthy landowner. The landowner's daughter, Aruna is also a student in the same college that Ramu goes to. Ramu is forever grateful to Aruna and her family and helps Aruna out in any way possible.
After completing both Ramu and Aruna return to their native village, but instead of being equals, as they were as students studying at the same college, they find themselves divided by their vastly different socio-economic status. Aruna finds herself developing a strong liking for Ramu, but is forced to fall in line with her family's expectations.
Soon, Aruna's wedding is fixed with a bridegroom who is deemed suitable for her, and whose family is equally powerful and wealthy. However, the marriage is stalled at the last moment due to heavy dowry demands and before both parties can come to a compromise, Aruna pleads with Ramu to marry her. Ramu hesitantly accepts Aruna's proposal, but their marriage causes a great scandal. Aruna's father and brother disown her.
Penniless and ostracised by all, how will the newly married couple survive? To add to their woes Ramu falls critically ill. How will they collect the funds essential for emergency surgery? Will Aruna's father forgive her and give her the money for the operation? Will their unconditional love and friendship help them overcome all the obstacles on their path?
