Gaayathri (1977)

This disturbing social drama delves into the life of Gaayathri, a beautiful young woman brought up with great love and care by her wealthy parents, as she is an only child. At the appropriate time, they arrange for her marriage with Rajaratnam, a wealthy businessman who lives along with his elder sister. Gaayathri agrees for the marriage with dreams of romance and happiness, but is shocked by the true nature of Rajaratnam and his sister, which is of cruelty and greed. Gaayathri, who is originally from Trichy, moves with her husband to Chennai, trusting him to help settle into her new life. Unfortunately, Rajaratnam is a perverse psychopath whose profession is to produce adult movies. He records intimate scenes of himself and his wife, without her knowledge and sells the videos in the black market. Initially, Gaayathri is unaware of Rajaratnam's evil nature, and trusts him implicitly, but her faith is shattered when a good friend, Jaishankar learns the truth and tries to rescue her. Will Jaishankar succeed in freeing Gaayathri from Rajaratnam's claws? Or, will her story be a repeat of Rajaratnam's previous wife, who lost her mind due to her husband's perversion?
