Kamboji is a story that unfolds in a village in Palakkad. Based on a true story in Malabar in the seventies, Kamboji is about love, lust, longing and loss. It is about the real-life incident of the hanging of an artist in his Kathakali costume a first of its kind in the country and that too in Kerala, perhaps one of the most tragic and rarest of incidents. The movie tries to track events that led to the murder and the lives of the protagonists. Love blossoms late in the life of a Kathakali artiste, Kunjunni, and a Mohiniyattam dancer, Uma Antharjanam, and when that affair is nipped in the bud, it paves the way to a murder.
