Embedded with soulful sentiments and quirky comedy, this social drama delves into the twists and turns in the life of Balakrishna (Jagapathi Babu), who lives in a small village with his wife Devi (Meena) and children. Balakrishna works as a barber and although they lived in abject poverty, he and his family are happy in their simple existence.
All this changes when a crowd of movie technicians arrive for a shooting near their village. The hero of the movie they are shooting is Ashok Kumar (Rajinikanth), a famous star who creates an incredible buzz around the village.
Balakrishna is amazed to discover that Ashok Kumar is none other than his best childhood buddy. When this fact is revealed to the villagers, news spreads like wildfire, and Balakrishna if faced with immense pressure from the locals for favours. Myriad complications develop as expectations and anticipation grows not just amongst the locals, but also his own wife and children. Will Ashok Kumar even recognise Balakrishna? Or, will Balakrishna continue to be shunned and ridiculed by those around him?
