*SPOILER*  Barring a few glitches, this entertainer is winesome

How important publicity is and a proper release date too is was something I realized when i caught up "Katthukutty" by director R.Saravanan.
Katthukutty has a socially relevant premise on farmer woes and the wiping out of the agriculturists by technology and politicians and industrialists with vested interests. It is interesting to note that hero Narain (reliable as ever..but one does wish he had sported a clean shaven look in which have a glimpse of in a song post interval)who is a highly qualified youngster chooses to concentrate and help farmers over high paying desk jobs.A little snapping reply that he gives a city bred lad near a tea shop when the latter insults the farmer community is worthy of applause and almost brings a lump init the throat. The heroine Srushti Dange(last seen in Darling and is pretty with lovely dimples) too here is well versed with Nature and the damage that technology can cause to it.In a little scene where she effortlessly rattles out the names of a dozen bird species which might face extinction in a move to oppose the permit for the installation of Mobile network tower on their farmland. However such scenes are few and far in between where the director chooses comedy/humour to make his messages appear less preachy.Soori as the chaddi buddy of Narain revels in his role bringing back a Varuthapadatha Vaalibar sangam twang to his well written part.Actors playing members of Narain's family and Srushti's father are well chosen and each of them get their moments even in the limited screen space.A few melodies by Aruldev have an Illayaraja hangover and the camera seems to be in love capturing buzzing dragon flies, colourful birds and lambs racing down mountains.
The problems here are the excessive scenes where the two friends meet in arrack shops and also an uneasy item song featuring Sandhya of Kaadhal fame. These elements could be promptly snipped off.The film ventures into village politics in the second half and how our charming hero slowly wins over the village folk after being blamed for a farmer's suicide.A decent effort and clean comedy makes this an engaging family entertainer (but for the item song and booze scenes).Recommended for its nice humor and good message.
