Vanessa Redgrave reportedly found the hair brushing scene difficult for to film, as the movie was made not long after the death of her daughter Natasha Richardson.
The idea for this film was inspired by the 2006 non-fiction book Letters to Juliet, by Lise Friedman and Ceil Friedman.
Juliet's secretaries really do exist. They are called the Juliet Club and they volunteer to reply to letters left in Verona, as well as organize events in honor of 'Romeo and Juliet'.
Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero are married in real life, and even played the famous lovers Lancelot and Guenevere in Camelot (1967).
