Bhavani Devi (Jayachitra) is a proud, arrogant woman who writes a book Bhartanu Longadisukotam Ela (How to Keep Husband in your Grip) and she thinks that in real life also her husband is in her grip.
However, what no one knows is that her spouse Rajeswara Prasad (Dasari Narayana Rao) is a wayward husband, who engages in many bad habits and secretly fulfills all his illicit desires and greedy wishes behind his wife's back.
The couple have a daughter Jaya (Vani Viswanath) who also follows in her mother's footsteps. Vijay (Rajendra Prasad) is an unemployed, educated, truthful young man. Jaya falls in love with him. After some time Vijay joins as an employee in Rajeswara Prasad's company.
Rajeswara Prasad comes to know about his daughter's love affair and also knows that Vijay is his childhood friend's son. Rajeswara Prasad decides to make Vijay his son-in-law under any circumstances. So, he tells many lies to Bhavani Devi and orchestrates Jaya's marriage with Vijay.
After the wedding ceremony, Vijay and Rajeswara Prasad engage in a bet. Vijay makes a challenge that only a family that is run on the basis of honesty and fidelity will live happily in the long run. His father-in-law is of the belief that manipulation and lies are necessary to maintain harmony within a family.
On the other hand, Bhavani Devi brainwashes Jaya about the importance of controlling her husband, and teaches her many tactics to keep her husband in her grip. Naturally, this causes a great deal of conflict between Jaya and Vijay. Will Vijay or his father-in-law win the bet? Will there ever be happiness and harmony within the family?
