Indian theatre and film actor, director and screenwriter Manoj Mitra was born on December 22, 1938 at Satkhira, Khulna of British India. He is known for his work in the 1980 Bengali hit Bancharamer Bagan. Manoj was attracted to the theater and plays that was held during Durga Puja. He graduated from Scottish Church College with honours in philosophy and did his MA in Philosophy from the University of Calcutta. He was active in writing short stories and writing, directing and acting in plays.
