A brave youngster secretly educates himself and returns to his community, in order to unite his people to fight for their rights and inspire them to revolt against their tyrannical rulers. Will he be successful in his mission?
Madhukar and Jaggu are tyrants who rule a small community while keeping the inhabitants uneducated. A brave youngster, Ramu secretly educates himself and when he grows up he becomes a threat to the tyrants, who fear his knowledge and educated ideas.
Madhukar and Jaggu start concocting lies about Ramu and try their best to destroy his reputation and trust amongst the people. Will Ramu be able to overcome the rumors and make the members of its local community unite against injustice and tyranny, and lead them in an uprising against the tyranny?
The film is a remake of the Telugu movie Trishulam (1982).
The film was delayed because Rajesh Khanna would constantly arrive late to the set.
When asked why she accepted a small role in the film, Jayapradha said that it was a powerful role which was very important to the script.
Sridevi's voice was dubbed in the film.
