Parasite tells the story of unemployed Ki-taek and his family who impersonate themselves to be someone else and get the opportunity to work in a wealthy and affluent Park family. How their lives get entangled with funny and disastrous consequences is what this story is all about. It’s a unique take on class divide and social inequality with a truly universal appeal which is resonating with audiences across the globe. The films stars Bong’s favourite actor Kang – Ho- Song who is being rooted for Best Supporting Actor at many Awards functions. The film has a perfect ensemble cast supported by Sun- Kyun Lee, Yeo Jeong Jo, Woo- sik Choi, So-dam Park, Jeong-eun Lee and Hye-jin Jang

The job of at-home tutor was chosen for Ki-woo because director Joon-ho Bong realized that sadly the job is the only way that families from two extreme ends of the class spectrum in modern-day South Korea can cross their paths convincingly in the story arc.

This film won the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first Korean film to ever do so.

This film was selected as the South Korean entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Director Joon-ho Bong, when speaking to Korean magazine Cine21, shared his experience in filming in a hyper-rich Korean home. He said his hand literally shook from anxiety when he was returning a trash can that was used as a prop: the trash can was of high-tech variety that stayed silent even when the lid was being closed and cost as much as US $2,500.
