The story revolves around Mona (Dimple Kapadia) runs a small restaurant in Goa. Raja, a fisherman by profession, is a childhood friend who lives in the neighbourhood. He is head over heels in love with Mona, but is completely unable to profess his feelings for her. Mona becomes friendly with Ravi (Rishi Kapoor), the heir of a wealthy and influential family of industrialists, who has recently arrived in town from the United States of America. When Ravi and Mona fall in love, not only does it cause utter heartbreak for their good friend Raja, but it also evokes strong resistance from Ravi's class-conscious grandmother.
