Strawberry", Pa.Vijay's latest outing is anything but romantic as the title indicates. The film is a tedious watch though it tries to impart a socially relevant message on responsibility of schools towards their students, the commercialization of the education system and the corruption by the big players. The problem is that the film takes its own time to get the crux of the story involving the spirit of a dead school girl who seeks vengeance against the sophisticated educationist behind her school and thereby providing solace to her wounded parent's souls.Samuthrakani and Devyani overact their parts out rendering them melodramatic to the core and then there is Thalaivasal Vijay who also needs osme lessons in subtley and underplaying.Avni Modi as the heroine has nothing much to do except show some skin and then reveal her grey shades later.More than Pa.Vijay who needs acting school lessons, its Robo Shankar who manages to leave a mark in the few scenes he gets.
There are a few nail biting sequences where the BGM and visuals make a smashing impact.Sadly the chills and thrills are few..to keep your interest sustained.Even Thambi Ramaiah and Imaan Annachi make the best of their badly written parts. The child artiste playing Anu is quite a doll and makes an impact..a lil' overacting could be forgiven to the most junior member of the cast.Strawberry suffers from bad editing and needed more fine tuning and trimming. The songs too are ill placed and a particular one featuring Vijay and Robo Shankar is quite eye blinding.
