Suhaagan (1986)

Two sisters Janaki (Sridevi) and Jyoti (Padmini Kohlapure) live with their Parents Jamnadas (Pran) and their mother (Tanuja). Ramu (Jeetendra) lives in the same village and makes living by farming. Ramu loves Janaki but Janaki is not that interested in Ramu because she is more attracted to Murli, who is much more wealthy than Ramu.

Jamnadas prefers Ramu as being Janaki's husband because he thinks he is a good person and will not ask for big dowry. Janaki's marriage is arranged with Ramu and that is when all the trouble starts.

Janaki is not at all comfortable at Ramu's household because he cannot provide the comforts she is looking for. Things get even worse after the birth of their first child and to make the long story short, Janaki walks away from Ramu to live with Murli, a wealthy man.

Ramu eventually marries her younger sister Jyoti and Jyoti takes care of Janki's baby daughter. However, Janaki's conscience hits her hard specially when her old school teacher scolds her for leaving her husband and child. How will Janaki's relationship with Murli evolve? How will her choices impact the relationship between Ramu and Jyoti?
