Powerful and poignant, this offbeat drama revolves around Shekharan, a farmer who lives in the countryside with Malini, his wife and two children in a small farming community. Shekharan is a hard-worker and has time for nothing but his job. He progressively builds up his assets and is saving money for the construction of his house.
An old man, who claims to be Shekharan's blood relative comes to his house . The old man tells him that Shekharan is part of a large family, with a great spiritual lineage, and who have been privileged enough to receive a great blessing in the form of a luminary great grandfather.
He invites Shekharan to visit the family. Shekharan goes with the old man and visits his distant cousins who are all well placed and affluent. Shekharan learns that the boons of the family are from the spiritual accomplishments of the great great grandfather.
Shekharan returns home and loses interest in his job. He becomes introspective and delves deeper into spiritual practice, even building a temple for the worship of his great-grandfather. How will this radical transformation in Shekharan affect his family? Where will Shekharan's spiritual practice lead him? The question remains, does he have the right to renounce his familial responsibilities and duties, in order to pursue the spiritual path?
