Tadanta (2016)

The film begins in the eighties when Kolkata is undergoing some changes such as construction of Metrorail was taking place etc. Abhi and Nisha are growing up in Kolkata and studying in the same college. Abhi is the son of a grocery shop owner.

Nisha has a very aristocrat background and belongs to Mullik family. Despite their social difference they have fallen in love with each other. Dr. Dinesh Chowdhury, belongs to a very affluent jute mill owner’s family. Mona, an escort girl, was often Dinesh’s companion with whom he shared a turbulent relationship. He often called Mona at his riverside retreat and spent evenings with her. Her boss Robi, the pimp, was very possessive about her and did not at all like Mona’s infatuation for Dinesh.

Meanwhile Nisha’s father arranged her marriage with Dr. Dinesh Chowdhury. Mona is shattered when she hears about this. She is traumatized by the possibility of losing Dinesh to some other woman who does not even know Dinesh, let alone loving him. Her tragedy comes to the fore. She becomes the ultimate victim of circumstance. Her emotional turmoil adds to the sentimental angle of the film in a major way.
