Where did you watch this movie?

In the third instalment of the action-oriented Expendables series Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables - but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

Expendables 3 becomes Expendable!!!!

The Expendables III….This serves as the sequel to the 2012 Film “The Expendables 2″. This one is directed by Patrick Hughes. When it comes to franchise movies, they eventually lose steam over the period, is it because of the high expectations set by them or the change in directors?? The first 2 from this series were very engaging and entertaining. This 3rd installment seems quite slow.

When it’s a multi-starrer, it’s a tedious job to keep all of them in line, In this case you find all the action heroes over the past decades in one movie. It becomes really tiring to manage so much heat together. Still the series kept us entertaining, but this one turns out to be quite sloppy.

The story is very simple, the same drill but this time it gets little personal with a veteran coming to life from the dead. Which makes everything go haywire. Typical Expendables plot but it was dragged with unwanted comical scenes which were ill supported by poor dialogues. The characters which had style and attitude in previous movies falls flat here.

The action is undoubtedly at it’s best, but it was spread out leisurely and was served cold in the climax, by then you get tired. With an ensemble of cast which includes name like FORD,Stallone,Banderas,Li,Snipes,Lundgren,Gibson & Schwarzenegger, this should have been thrice the fun, but it turned out be a cheesy wannabe EXPENDABLES movie.

The cinematography was great by Peter Menzies Jr. which was well supported by Sean Albertson & Paul Harb editing which made the action sequences really tight, my favorite is the bike scene in the climax. The new characters introduced in this sequel were quite appealing but didn’t have much screen space to explore their talents.

Expendables is got a reputation which was not maintained in this one, with old action heroes making jokes and kicking ass was fun. This fails to deliver that fun. The Expendables III can be missed, as I would say it was the most boring action movie which I had watched recently with every single action cliched sequences ever made.

+’s – Great cinematography and editing with decent action sequences.

-’s – Sloppy screenplay with dull dialogues.

Rating: 2.5/5.

One of the highlights of this movie was an epic fight scene between Gibson and Stallone.

This movie is set in Mogadishu, Somalia and then in fictional third world countries. However, many details world created by 200 people who worked on the CGI in Bulgaria at a studio facility.

Stallone was very particular about what the explosions and injuries should look like when done via VFX, and also paid a great deal of exacting attention to the amount of blood and wounds.

One of the longest action sequences in this movie, involves a big battle scene with a long camera pan and continues unabated for around 2 minutes without a cut.

This is the first ever movie in which Schwarzenegger and Ford shared screen space.

All the fight scenes have been done with pre-viz, so the actors can see how it will play out, and the team made sure to use each actors’ strengths to help craft each scene.

Antonio Banderas only agreed to be in the movie after all his conditions and alterations were accepted by Stallone.

Kellan Lutz played the role of John Smilee, the leader of the younger Expendables. The reason for the nickname is his character never smiles.

When Gibson showed up on set for this movie, he looked so powerful and big, that Sylvester Stallone and the rest of the team had to work extremely hard to build up their muscles to match him.

Patrick Hughes was filming a lingerie commercial on Bombay beach when he found out Stallone wanted to meet with him about directing The Expendables 3. His first meeting was supposed to be thirty minutes and it ended up being two and a half hours.

While discussing possibilities of the perfect villain, the topic of Mel Gibson came up. The idea of Rambo Vs Mad Max appealed to everyone, and Sylvester Stallone just picked up the phone and got Gibson and to do the role.

"Steven Seagal" was offered a role but he declined.

Lucas Till was considered for the role of Smilee.

Milla Jovovich turned down the role of Camilla due to her commitments on "Resident Evil 6" and "Cymbeline".

Milla Jovovich was considered for the role of Camilla.

While shooting an action scene in a truck Jason Statham almost suffered a fatal accident when the truck fell to the sea after brakes failed.

In addition to his role of main villain, Mel Gibson was offered the chance to direct the film but he declined.

Sylvester Stallone offered a supporting role to Jackie Chan but Chan refused because he want to play a lead role.

Nicolas Cage was considered for the role of Bonaparte before Kelsey Grammer was cast.

At one point Mickey Rourke was set to reprise his role of Tool from The Expendables (2010).
