Mardaleen, a strikingly cultured student is stuck in the small town of Potchefstroom but she yearns for the culture and the lights of London. After her devastating breakup, she moves to London with her best friend Lara and strikes a friendship with five other South Africans and an unexpected romance begins between her and Namibian-born housemate, Hugo. Things move too fast for her and when her insecurities and fear get the best of her, Mardaleen leaves and heads home. Their romance is rekindled when 2 years later followed by an invitation by Hugo to his hometown in Namibia. Her weekend to Swakopmund turns into a nightmare when she learns that Hugo wants to be with her but she also realizes that she wants culture, the city and its lights instead of being on a farm.
