Yaar Meri Zindagi (2008)

 ●  Hindi ● 2 hrs 14 mins

Where did you watch this movie?

Evocative and endearing, this romantic drama revolves around two childhood friends Vikram Singh and Ajay Singh. Ajay singh grows up and becomes a Doctor (a messiah for the peasants) while Vikram Singh takes over his ancestor's inheritance, and fits into the mighty shoes of a Typical Thakur. Conflict begins in their friendship when Vikram Singh's henchman Shamsher Singh abducts a peasant girl. Dr Ajay gets Shamsher Singh arrested and thus the bitterness starts. This causes rivalry between the two, and the rest of the drama is on how the two battle out their differences. Is there any possibility of the renewal of their friendship, or have they grown up to be so different that there can be no more common ground between them?

Trivia:
A whopping 37 years after shooting for this movie began, it only had a limited release of 20 prints in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.

Filming began in 1971, and was initially directed by Mukul Dutt who left the project in 1976.

Director Ashok Gupta took over the project in 1993 and completed it within a year's time, but had issues releasing the film. However the music album was released.

In 2008 Ashok Mishra bought the rights of the film, and jointly planned on releasing the movie with Director Ashok Gupta with a small release of 20 prints across Maharashtra.

Amitabh Bachchan signed on for this film in his struggling days in the 70's, when he was a newcomer to the industry and looking for work.

Amitabh Bachchan was asked how he felt about the film releasing 37 years later, with a much younger Amitabh and he responded "It's always a welcome sight to see how one looked spoke and moved years ago."

This movie was shot and completed with the title Aparajit. Yaar Meri Zindagi was a title selected later.
