Indian film director, screenwriter, producer, music composer and playback singer Vishal Bhardwaj hails from Chandpur village, near Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, is known for his work in the Hindi cinema and is a recipient of a Filmfare Award and seven National Film Awards in four categories. Initially considering himself as a music composer as much as a director, Vishal made his debut as a music composer with the children's film Abhay in the year 1995, and received wider recognition with his compositions in Gulzar's 1996 blcokbuster Maachis. He had garnered the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for his compositions in the movie 'Godmother'.
Vishal made his directorial debut with the children's film Makdee in the year 2002, He is known for creating brilliant Indian adaptations of the three tragedies by William Shakespeare - Maqbool from Macbeth, Omkara from Othello, and Haider from Hamlet. He owns his own production company called VB Pictures and co-writes as well as produce films such as Ishqiya, its 2014 sequel Dedh Ishqiya, and the semi-biographical thriller Talvar among more projects.
Bhardwaj met his playback singer wife Rekha Bhardwaj when he had moved to Delhi to pursue his graduation at the Hindu College, University of Delhi.
